A Brief History of Sun Salutations

The roots of Sun Salutations trace back to ancient India, where the sun (Surya) was revered as a source of life and vitality. While not originally part of the earliest yogic texts, Surya Namaskar became a staple in modern yoga traditions such as Ashtanga Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga. Traditionally, practitioners would perform them at dawn, facing the rising sun, as a physical prayer of gratitude and renewal.

Over time, Sun Salutations evolved into a dynamic practice that blends movement, breath, and meditation. Today, they are recognized not only for their spiritual significance but also for their holistic benefits to the body and mind.
